Families, colleagues, friends, and mourners today bid a final farewell to the late Mrs. Hawa Yannah Moseray, Senior State House Correspondent for the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), whose unique voice will forever be remembered by many Sierra Leoneans. She was laid to rest at the Wilberforce Cemetery after a funeral mass at Saint Paul’s Quasi Parish.

Mrs. Moseray passed away on Saturday, 2 August 2025. Known for her dedication to public service and professionalism, she was a respected figure in the media landscape of Sierra Leone. Her distinct voice and authoritative reporting style became a signature of SLBC’s State House coverage.

Delivering the homily, Reverend Father Ambrose Michael drew his message from Romans 5:5, themed “Jesus is Our Hope.” He reminded the congregation of the assurance of resurrection and God’s love poured into human hearts through the Holy Spirit. “Our sister lived and died in Christ, faithfully serving Him all her life. Hawa was running the race to the finish, in her work at SLBC, in State House reporting, and in her family life and is now receiving the crown of glory,” he said, quoting 2 Timothy 4:6–8.

Tributes from family, friends, and colleagues described an image of a woman of passion, discipline, compassion, and loyalty. Her elder sister, Madam Bintu Tommy recalled her early love for journalism, fondly calling her the family’s news bearer. “Aunty Hawa was the root and joy-giver of our family. Sleep on and take your rest,” she said.

Her elder son, Derick Lansana described her as a disciplinarian who instilled strong values in her children. “Though we mourn, we do so with pride. The stories of her kindness and impact comfort us. The vacuum she leaves will be hard to fill,” he noted.

From the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John, St. Marcella Respected President, Fudia Kona Kowa, described Mrs. Moseray’s loyalty and service since joining the group in 2002. “She never called me by name, only ‘Respected.’ Her memories stay, but her loyalty remains. Goodbye until we meet again on that beautiful shore,” she said.

The final commendation was given by Reverend Father Francis Tommy, who reminded mourners that while parting brings sadness, faith in Christ assures reunion. “Let us console one another with the hope of seeing Hawa again,” he concluded.

Mrs. Hawa Yannah Moseray’s legacy as a journalist, mentor, and devoted Catholic will remain an inspiration to the SLBC family, the State House press corps, and all who knew her.
