In a heartwarming celebration of faith and community, the Sierra Leonean Embassy in Saudi Arabia hosted a grand Eid al-Fitr dinner on Sunday, March 30, 2025, for approximately 100 Sierra Leonean Umrah pilgrims in Makkah.
The event, a significant highlight of the Eid festivities, was organized in collaboration with prominent Saudian Saleh Zahrani.
The gathering brought together Sierra Leonean pilgrims from various parts of the globe, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Sierra Leone. Following the Eid prayers, guests enjoyed a delectable lunch/dinner that commemorated the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.
In his keynote address, Ambassador Mohammed S. Barrie, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, expressed his gratitude to the pilgrims for their attendance. He shared his joy in connecting with Sierra Leonean Umrah pilgrims from diverse backgrounds.
Ambassador Barrie took the opportunity to extend his appreciation to Saleh Zahrani, a prominent local figure, for his unwavering support of Sierra Leone. Zahrani’s efforts have been instrumental in fostering relationships between the two nations, enhancing the experience of Sierra Leoneans during their pilgrimage.
During his address, the Ambassador urged attendees, which included Imams and pilgrims, to reflect on the importance of unity and prayer for their home country. He emphasized the need for special prayers for the government of Sierra Leone, particularly for His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio and Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh.
“Leadership is bigger than any ship you see on the high seas; it cannot just turn this way and that. It takes time to bend curves,” Ambassador Barrie stated, highlighting the complexities and responsibilities that come with guiding a nation. His remarks resonated with many in the audience, underscoring the significance of steadfast leadership during challenging times.

In addition to honoring the pilgrims, Deputy Ambassador Turay extended special Eid al-Fitr greetings to His Excellency the President of Sierra Leone and his family, as well as to the Honorable Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh and his family. His words reflected the spirit of gratitude and celebration that accompanies the conclusion of Ramadan.

Sheikh Bailor Barrie and Sheikh Sulaiman Yasin, representing Sierra Leonean pilgrims from the United Kingdom and the United States, respectively, voiced their deep appreciation for the embassy’s thoughtful organization of the dinner. They characterized the occasion as “memorable” and a “blessing.”
Dr. Ramadan Jalloh, Coordinator of Mubarak Travels and Tours Agency in Sierra Leone, also praised the Sierra Leonean Embassy and Saleh Zahrani for their efforts in hosting the Eid banquet. He conveyed heartfelt thanks to Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh for his support of the Umrah pilgrims, including the provision of a VIP sea coach for complimentary transportation from Aberdeen to Lungi. Dr. Jalloh further acknowledged Saleh Zahrani’s invaluable contribution to the Sierra Leonean community.
