In a move to demonstrate proactive leadership and firsthandengagement, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, on Wednesday paid a working visit to the Freetown East Region. He was accompanied by the Director of Operations, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Dr. John Martin Senesie.
The visit commenced with an inspection of the ongoing construction of the Regional Police Headquarters on Ross Road. IGP Sellu, guided by AIG Francis Maindy and Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Emmanuel Kpulun, toured the developing facility and was briefed on the layout and progress of the proposed offices.
Continuing his tour, the Police Chief visited the Calaba Town Police Station, where he inspected the detention facilities, the Officer Commanding (OC) office, and various operational units.
At the Operational Support Division (OSD) base in Jui, IGP Sellu was received by Superintendent Jusu. He observed the OSD’s efforts in ensuring public safety, particularly the enforcement of pedestrian use of the overhead crossing—a measure aimed at preventing road accidents.
The IGP proceeded to the Waterloo Division, where he monitored ongoing traffic management and special duty operations at Tombo Junction, taking stock of the personnel’s coordination and response mechanisms.
The day-long tour concluded with a visit to the Rokel Police Station, where IGP Sellu addressed the officers, encouraging professionalism, discipline, and continued commitment to service.
IGP Sellu’s visit underlines his commitment to moving away from passive, “armchair” leadership, choosing instead to engage directly with officers on the ground and assess operational effectiveness in real time.
