Sierra Leonean journalist Eric Kawa has officially commenced his participation in the Strategic Communication Masterclass at the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in the United Kingdom.

The masterclass focuses on enhancing communication skills related to land restoration, environmental sustainability, and global development challenges.

On Day 1 of the program, Kawa joined other international participants in a series of intensive sessions covering key topics such as land degradation, ecosystem services, systems thinking, and power analysis. The sessions were led by expert tutors Nick, Tom, and Duncan, who guided participants through both theoretical frameworks and practical exercises, including stakeholder mapping—a vital tool in identifying key players in environmental and development sectors.

Eric Kawa described the opening day as highly engaging and insightful, noting: “What a great start to the Strategic Communication Masterclass at LSE! The sessions on environmental and systemic challenges have been incredibly informative.”

The masterclass is organized in collaboration with several global institutions, including the G20 Land Initiative, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa, and LSE itself. This international training aims to strengthen global capacity in crafting effective communication strategies that address urgent environmental challenges and support sustainable land management.

Kawa’s participation highlights Sierra Leone’s increasing involvement in international efforts to combat desertification and promote sustainable development. His role in the masterclass not only allows him to acquire advanced skills but also brings visibility to Sierra Leone’s commitment to global environmental action.

The Strategic Communication Masterclass is expected to run for several days, providing participants with the tools to influence policies, engage communities, and promote collaborative approaches in addressing climate change, land degradation, and ecosystem restoration worldwide. Keywords: Sierra Leone, Eric Kawa, London School of Economics, Strategic Communication Masterclass, Land Restoration, Environmental Sustainability, Climate Change, G20 Land Initiative, UNCCD, Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa, Stakeholder Mapping, Ecosystem Services, Sustainable Development.
