The Sierra Leone Law Society has elected its first executive with Augustine Sorie-Sengbe Marrah and Wara Serry-Kamal as President and Vice President respectively.

The Society also elected Margaret Davies as Secretary General, Edward Lassayo as Assistant Secretary General, Claude Davies as Public Relations Officer, Joy Bayoh as Treasurer and Charles Williams as Organising Secretary.

The new executive is expected to start work soon.

The Sierra Leone Law Society was formed after legal practitioners voiced concerns relating to electoral fraud in the May 2024 Sierra Leone Bar Association elections. Reports at the time indicated that there were shreds of evidence of ballot stuffing and some members of the association were barred from exercising their franchise.

The disenfranchised lawyers alleged government involvement in the process and called for the elections to be cancelled but this fell on deaf ears.

Meanwhile, there are indications that the Society will have a sour relationship with the central government after the Acting Ambassador of Sierra Leone to Kenya, Abdul Kargbo refused to give assurances of protection to Faith Odhiambo, President of the Kenya Law Society.

Madam Odhiambo was supposed to be the guest speaker at the maiden meeting of the Sierra Leone Law Society but claims indicated that she was advised not to visit Sierra Leone.
