Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has confirmed to AYV that Sierra Leone lost a whooping sum of NLe77.6 Million (an equivalent of $3.5 Million) on June 19, 20, 21, dates rumored for a failed planned faceless protests. He used the opportunity to encourage Sierra Leoneans to shun detractors who are bent on creating political instability in the country.

Dr. Sengeh said the daily revenue collected by the National Revenue Authority (NRA) is NLe72 million, but that on 19th, the government was only able to collect NLe46.94 million, NLe49.39 million on the 20th and NLe53.11 million on the 21st June, 2024 respectively.

Dr. David Sengeh said the political instability on June 19 triggered by bad politics has helped in precipitating economic instability, which caused government to lose $3.5 million.

This he said is a huge amount that could be utilised in paying public sector salaries, funding the free and quality education programme and the strengthening of health care facilities.

The Chief Minister revealed that inflation use to stand at 38% for the month of April but due to the vibrant economic policies of the government inflation has been brought down to 35.85% in May, whiles a drastic reduction is also expected by the end of June 2024.

He was displeased that those who does not mean well for the country are bent on reversing the gains the government has achieved in the economic sphere.

Dr. Sengeh assured that the government is working with the APC through the tripartite committee report recommendations to ensure the prevalence of political stability that will invariably lead to economic stability.

He appealed to the general public to ignore a sit at home strike in the future, and to disregard those calling for it because the government will lose a lot of money if the general public becomes economically inactive.
