The United Sierra Leone, held its first musical Festival in Sierra Leone in 2018 where it endorsed the diaspora festival plan, setting out a series of ambitious events and initiatives to be pursued over the next five years to seek to promote peace and development through arts.
The appointment was made by United Sierra Leone’s Vice President and Music Director/Producer Joseph Ruchard Abdulai otherwise known as Soundboy Richie.
“AbFad is a talented artist, producer and a mobiliser who can bring entertainers together on behalf of United Sierra Leone across the United States of America, and use music as an instrument for pace and development,” said Soundboy Richie. “He is a great symbol for Sierra Leone entertainment in the diaspora, as well as those working to bring our people together to promote unity, freedom and justice”.
Following the initial Diaspora Committee, AbFad commented: “The
United Sierra Leone Project offers us exciting new opportunities to work together to bring about excellence and development in the entertainment industry.
“I’m delighted to have been appointed the Convener of the United Sierra Leone Music Festival USA and look forward to working with my colleagues from across the world in the months and years ahead to bring about musical improvement and unity for all our people throughout this festival. Together, we are ambitious in our plans to close the entertainment gap. Every artist should have the opportunities to fulfil their potential – and so working together to drive Sierra Leone musical improvement at the international level will be at the centre of delivering on this festival.”
The United Sierra Leone Festival has previously received support from the European Union, ECOWAS, Africa Union, Government of Sierra Leone, Messeh Leone Trust, AMNet, AYV Media, Independent Radio Network, Leone Entertainment and many other organisations. United Sierra Leone Festival was used as a tool to promote national cohesion and reconciliation by taking musicians and music to different regions to introduce them on new platform in an effort to create a better understanding of peace and tolerance in the communities in the aftermath of the 2018 elections.
The role of music in nation building was promoted by early action and the production of a music album to promote a United Sierra Leone. The Album featured United Sierra Leone Ambassadors including top artists: Steady Bongo, Emmerson, Star Zee, LAJ, Kao Denero, Innocent, Sorie Kondi, SQB, Succulent, M2, Nasser Ayoub, Fantacee. The artists recorded a theme song together with a chorus sang by members of the Children’s Forum Network and Blind School.
AbFad who is a nephew to the late philanthropist and business investor Ambassador Moseray Fadika, has dedicated his time to work towards bringing people together and promote unity, freedom and justice through arts.
United Sierra Leone is about moving beyond artificial and tribal divisions in society to build a better Sierra Leone where everyone plays their part and everyone receives a fair share. United Sierra Leone is part of our efforts of healing the divisions of the past and establishing a society based on democratic values, social justice and fundamental human rights.
