Sierra Leone has been nominated as one of the most desirable emerging destinations for travel by Wanderlust, the United Kingdom’s largest and longest-running travel magazine.
This comes after the country’s Freetown Peninsula was recognised by TIME Magazine as one of the world’s greatest places for 2023.
Described as “Africa’s new coastal hub,” Sierra Leone has been garnering international attention for its tourism potential and is included in the top 50 destinations to visit globally.
Alongside countries such as Rwanda, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Malawi, Sierra Leone is in the running for the most Desirable Emerging destination award.
Wanderlust Magazine, known for its commitment to authentic and responsible travel, has been celebrating the best in the travel industry for 22 years through its Reader Travel Awards.
Winners will be decided by a panel of judges or by passionate travelers themselves. The Wanderlust Readers Awards aims to celebrate the best in travel for 22 years, the Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards shines a spotlight on the travel industry’s greatest stars.
This year the ceremony will be held at the iconic British Museum, with awards handed out in an evening that assembles industry heavy-weights and esteemed guests.

The awards are completely free to enter and open globally to tourism boards, tour operators, and destinations.
