The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has issued a strong reminder to political parties regarding the proper procedures for organizing public meetings, following reports that some individuals are requesting police security without the authorization of their party secretariats.

In a press release issued today, the SLP emphasized that all such requests must come directly from the party’s national secretariat and must be submitted at least three days in advance.

“We have observed that some individuals affiliated with political parties are bypassing their secretariats to request police security for public meetings,” the release stated. “This is not acceptable. All political parties are reminded that any such requests must be officially channeled through their party secretariats.”

The police further stressed the importance of aligning all political activities with the provisions of the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) Act.

“It is the responsibility of all political parties to ensure that their public engagements do not violate the PPRC Act,” the SLP noted. “This includes holding meetings at designated venues rather than organizing street rallies.”

Reaffirming their commitment to upholding public order, the SLP called on all political entities to act in accordance with the law.

“We remain dedicated to safeguarding the democratic process by enforcing lawful and orderly conduct,” said the statement. “We urge all political parties to cooperate with these guidelines in the interest of peace and national stability.”

The police concluded by thanking the public for its ongoing cooperation and reaffirmed their goal of maintaining a peaceful political environment across Sierra Leone.
