Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Sylvester M.N. Koroma, Regional Commander of Freetown West, delivered a lecture to members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), emphasising the critical need for a joint security network between the police and the military.

The session, held at the Regional Headquarters in Lumley, Freetown, aimed to strengthen collaboration between the two forces to improve national security.

AIG Koroma, a seasoned law enforcement and security strategist, stressed that effective security depends on teamwork, intelligence sharing, and coordinated operations. He cited real-life examples where joint operations had successfully reduced crime, neutralized threats, and protected national interests.

“The threats we face today are evolving from organized crime to terrorism and cyber threats,” AIG Koroma stated. “No single force can tackle them alone. A well-coordinated joint security network enables us to respond faster, act decisively, and ensure national stability.”

He outlined key areas for joint security efforts, including border security to prevent illegal arms and drug trafficking, crisis management for responding to riots, disasters, and terrorist threats, community policing and intelligence gathering to preempt security risks, and military-police synergy to ensure seamless operations.

The RSLAF officers in attendance expressed appreciation for the lecture, recognizing the importance of a stronger police-military relationship for a safer Sierra Leone. Discussions also covered joint training programs, improved communication channels, and joint patrol initiatives to enhance operational effectiveness.

AIG Koroma concluded the session by reaffirming the Sierra Leone Police’s (SLP) commitment to working closely with the RSLAF to maintain peace and security, reinforcing the shared mission of both forces to protect and serve the people of Sierra Leone.
