The Sierra Leone Reporters Union (SLRU) has elected new leadership. The newly elected Executive has commended all reporters across the country for demonstrating the true spirit of elections.
The Executive in a statement said: “We firmly believe that elections should be conducted in a spirit of camaraderie and as platforms for exchanging ideas rather than as contentious contests. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists Electoral Commission (SLAJEC) for overseeing one of the most peaceful, free, and fair elections in our country’s history.
“This exemplary conduct should serve as a shining example for other institutions and state bodies to emulate. The peaceful outcome reaffirms the importance of our profession in contributing to our nation’s prosperity. We acknowledge and thank all our competitors for contributing to a competitive and constructive election process. While we are honoured to have been elected to serve, the journey to revitalize the union is a collective endeavour. We eagerly welcome your valuable insights and ideas to strengthen the union and ensure it becomes a powerful advocate for all reporters.
“To our esteemed parent body, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), we commend your steadfast commitment to upholding the standards that unite and uphold the journalism profession. As we embark on this journey, we look forward to your continued support and guidance to help us achieve our goals.
“Dear colleagues, during our campaign, we introduced the ‘Rebranding Reporters Union Manifesto’, outlining our vision for the union’s future. We remain open to new ideas and suggestions on how best to achieve our objectives. Your election of us marks the beginning of a collective effort to realize our shared vision. Let us unite and work together towards success”.
