In Washington DC, President D. Julius Maada Bio made history by witnessing and making a statement at the signing of the 480 million United States dollars MCC Energy Compact for Sierra Leone.

Witnessing the signing, President Bio said: “I stated my profound gratitude to the United States Government and the American people for this support. I was thrilled to deliver a statement during the epoch-making signing ceremony and as I mentioned, access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity goes beyond merely illuminating homes or powering industries; it serves as the catalyst for growth, stimulates innovation, and helps lift communities out of poverty”.

The grant will transform the energy infrastructure in Sierra Leone and unleash immense investment opportunities and private sector growth in Sierra Leone.

President Bio assured that his government is fully dedicated to ensuring the effective implementation of this Compact, stating; “As you have entrusted me to govern you for a second term, I am humbled by the trust and leadership qualities you have seen in me. Your blessings accompany me in both national and international endeavors, and I deeply appreciate your support.

“Today, I want to take a moment to share significant news with you. I am currently in New York City, where I have had the honor of signing a crucial agreement with the United States government for the MCC Energy Compact. This achievement is not just a victory for me or the Sierra Leone People’s Party; it is a triumph for all of us, the entire people of Sierra Leone.

“Let us come together as one nation, united in purpose, to harness this opportunity for the benefit of our country. Together, we can deliver progress today and pave the way for a brighter future for generations yet unborn.”
