Sierra Leone spent Le40M a week on Beach Cleaning

Managing Director of the National Tourist Board, FatmataMida Carew, revealed that the Board spends approximately NLe40,000 each week on cleaning up the country’s beaches.

The expenditure notably prompted her to call on the public to take greater responsibility in protecting those vital natural resources.

Carew expressed concern over the increasing incidence of littering along the beaches, with items such as sofas, mattresses, and plastics being discarded irresponsibly.

She noted that this not only harms the environment but also negatively impacts the tourism industry, which is crucial for the country’s economy.

She emphasized the need for citizens to adopt better waste disposal habits to help preserve the beaches and heritage sites that are essential to Sierra Leone’s identity and tourism appeal.
