Sierra Leone’s National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency (SLMet) have issued an advisory stating that the country, along with other West and Central African countries, is projected to experience significant rainfall between August 5th and 9th this year.

The Agency said heavy rainfall ranging from 100mm to 150mm is expected across various parts of Sierra Leone this week, adding that this forecast is consistent with SLMet’s national outlook for the same period.

The NDMA and SLMet have encouraged the public to follow all weather alerts and advisories issued by SLMet and NDMA via radio, TV, and official social media channels.

Residents in vulnerable communities are advised to move to safer or higher ground, while households and communities should ensure gutters and waterways are decongested to reduce waterlogging.

People are further advised to avoid attempting to walk or drive through floodwaters and contact the toll-free line – 119, available on all networks for any emergency.
