The theme for this program was: Training of Trainers (TOTs) which was based on skills development and employability for the youth of Sierra Leone.
This project was launched in 2016 and will end in 2020. It is a three years’ pilot project that will train about 3,000 people in various areas. One of the areas will be around skills development which is a component in one of the projects led by Lattanzio Kibs SPA and Italian firm and they are looking at three different skills, hotel tourism and catering, construction, aqua-culture (fish farming) while providing tools for these projects.
The second component consists of business entrepreneurship (business development services) to improve the business sector in the country by empowering youth.
The third component consists of technical vocational education and training (TVET). The campaign which is led by the Evangelical Fellowship in Sierra Leone consists of career advisory replacement services and this project will be done at the Fourah Bay College, Njala University, Eastern Polytechnic and the Ernest Bai Koroma University to train young people on career development.
According to the Commissioner of National Youth Commission (NAYCOM) Ngolo Katta “This training is for young people in the country”. He also said different trainings have been taking place to push this project further, and to support the New Direction blueprint of the President’s agenda for youth empowerment and development which talks about the human capacity development and the issue about educational training, skills development, technical vocational education and training (TVET) which are critical issues in the country and need more attention.
This project is expected to involve all the youth both educated and non-educated and those that have skills without a certificate but are competent. These courses will be studied in all the universities and colleges across the country.
17 participants took part in the training and they expressed their gratitude, adding that it is an eye opener for youth in the country.
