Indications that the SLAJ bank account is in the red has left dozens of members of the Association devastated.

Reports have it that the landlord of the building returned from Hajj few months ago to request for due rent with an indication to throw the tenant out in an instance of further delay.

It can be recalled that the building in question was rented by the Umaru Fofana leadership of SLAJ and confirmed reports say the current Kelvin Lewis leadership that has not been able to pay this year’s rent inherited a whole year that has been paid for by the Umaru leadership.

Concerns as to why the Kelvin leadership is incapable to pay the said rent to an extent that the Association is now facing shameful threats of being disgracefully evicted out of its national headquarters is growing day by day.

Former senior executive members of SLAJ under the Fofanah SLAJ regime who preferred anonymity said: “How much is Le30.8millions that a whole national association could not pay to protect its image? Could it be that the Kelvin Lewis leadership is incapable to mobilize its membership to pay their individual and affiliate monthly dues that the Association’s bank account is running red? Could it be that the Lewis leadership of SLAJ is incapable to rally round national and international friends of SLAJ like the UN Agencies and others to assist the Association with payment of rent as it happened sometimes under the Umaru leadership? Hope rumors making the rounds those former national and international friends of SLAJ under Umaru’s regime have lost confidence on the Lewis regime to an extent that they have decided to withhold their supports to the Association is nothing to go by?”

Journalists who this writer spoke to last evening before going to press used the opportunity to appeal to the Kelvin Lewis administration not to allow the good name of this Association to be demeaned in such a manner. They expressed concerns that should the landlord decide to throw the Association out it will be as shameful as all SLAJ members dancing naked on the streets of Freetown.
