SLAJ President commits to united, professional journalism

The National President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Alhaji Manika Kamara, outlined his vision for a more unified and ethical media landscape.  

Kamara thanked members for their trust and pledged to prioritize inclusivity, security, and welfare for journalists. He emphasised empowering women in the profession and ensuring equal opportunities.  

Addressing challenges, Kamara acknowledged difficulties in improving journalists’ welfare but vowed to engage media owners and the Labour Ministry. He also stressed the importance of professionalism, urging members to uphold ethical standards while assuring SLAJ’s support in defending press freedom.  

Additionally, he called for compliance with Independent Media Commission (IMC) regulations and revealed plans for a nationwide tour to engage stakeholders.  

The interview reinforced SLAJ’s commitment to safeguarding journalists and promoting a responsible, independent media in Sierra Leone.
