SLAJ signs MoU with Limkokwing University

The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, marking a significant step in fostering collaboration between the two institutions.

The signing ceremony took place at the University’s conference hall at Hill Station, Freetown.

Speaking on behalf of Limkokwing University, Deputy Director of Campus Mr. Aiah James highlighted the institution’s mission to empower students with skills that enable them to become problem solvers and self-reliant professionals. He emphasized the University’s focus on equipping students with practical tools to apply their knowledge effectively, contributing to the development of sound minds in society.

Mr. James expressed gratitude to SLAJ for its continued support over the years, stating that the MoU would strengthen their relationship and pave the way for a brighter future for both the media and the University.

SLAJ President Ahmed Sahid Nasralla expressed his delight at the signing of the MoU, describing it as the culmination of months of planning and consultations. He provided a brief overview of SLAJ’s mission to defend and promote press freedom and freedom of expression, as well as its commitment to offering training opportunities to its members to enhance professionalism and ethical journalism.

Nasralla described the MoU as a pivotal milestone in advancing journalism education and practice in Sierra Leone, opening doors to numerous possibilities for both institutions. He thanked Limkokwing University for its cooperation and expressed hope for similar partnerships with other institutions offering journalism programs.

The MoU establishes a framework for collaboration in the following areas: training, mentorship, and internships for journalists, capacity building for media professionals, research and development resource sharing, and public awareness and advocacy for media freedom and freedom of expression.

By combining SLAJ’s commitment to professional development with Limkokwing University’s dedication to academic excellence, the partnership aims to enhance the quality of journalism in Sierra Leone.

The MoU is effective for three years, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement. Both parties are committed to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to the terms outlined, ensuring a successful and sustainable partnership.
