Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, the Chief Minister of Sierra Leone, has said the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) constitutional review is one of the most progressive, transparent, inclusive and participatory processes ever.

He talked on how political parties review their constitutions, including the SLPP and other opposition parties, which regularly conduct such reviews, while expressing thanks to the National Party Leader, President Julius Maada Bio, the National Chairman, and all NEC members who nominated the constitutional review committee (CRC) members during a NEC meeting.

The Chief Minister highlights the subcommittees within the CRC, their functions, and how they collaborate to achieve common goals.

Dr. David Sengeh was officially appointed the Chairman of the Constitutional Review Committee for the SLPP.

After his appointment, Dr. Sengeh expressed his gratitude for the appointment, saying, “Yesterday, the Leader of our great Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), H.E President Bio, appointed me as Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee of our great political party. I am truly honoured and excited to work with all to deliver on our mission. I want to thank the Chairman, Secretary General, and the entire NEC for nominating me to serve in the committee in the first place.”

Highlighting the SLPP’s rich history since its founding in 1951, Sengeh emphasized the party’s commitment to inclusion, diversity, and social development. He stated, “The SLPP is a political party that is home for the young, the elderly, the ambitious, the bold, the entrepreneurial, the creative, the visionary, and the problem solver.”

In line with the party’s motto, “One Country One People,” Sengeh stressed the importance of continuous reform to enhance transparency, inclusion, accountability, and a commitment to social democratic ideals. He disclosed that the Constitutional Review Committee, tasked with leading this process, would engage in wide consultations, inviting input from various stakeholders through position papers and extensive questioning.

“The last 70 years of our Party’s history has been great. But for the future of our country, we need the next 70 years to be better,” asserted Sengeh. Addressing past misconceptions about the SLPP, he stated, “Whether known incorrectly as ‘Mende man party,’ ‘Kontri man party,’ ‘Old pipul den party,’ or whatever else, the one thing that remains clear is that we are a party that follows democratic processes and is committed to political and governance reform. We build institutions.”

Looking ahead, Sengeh extended an invitation to progressive, innovative, and reform-oriented Sierra Leoneans both at home and abroad to join in shaping the party’s future. As the SLPP plans for the next 70 years, he emphasized the need for collective efforts to ensure a better future for the country
