“Good morning Samuel Wise. I was going to call you also. We met last evening and our position remains sacrosanct. Consequently, we do not wish to further engage the SLPP government in any debate or discussion on this issue, especially when we intend to drop a bombshell tomorrow Monday 4th February, 2019. Kindly convey this position and our regards to your esteemed listeners and viewers.

Cornelius Deveaux  – NPS (National Publicity Secretary)”

Responding, Mr. Swarray said: “My reaction is this and I want to be clear about this. The APC is not on trial. I do not know how many more times I have to say this. No tribal group is on trial. No region is on trial. So, the Commissions’ mandate is clear and categorical. It is calling people of interest to the Commission; people who have been former presidents, former vice presidents, former ministers, former heads of departments and the like. The APC’s position, for us, is not the issue. Invites; summons will be sent to persons who are of interest to the Commission and that will be a private decision to make.

On how he reacts to the word ‘bombshell’ Mr. Swarray said: “We are a government, and we cannot be scared by irresponsible utterances made by anybody. We have had very reckless and irresponsible comments coming from faceless firebrands using social media. We are a government; we have sworn an oath to ensure that we maintain the peace, stability and tranquility of this country and we will not shy away from it any moment. So on dropping a bombshell, the APC Secretary General just called in to the programme when I was a studio guest at 98.1. They asked him and he says they are yet to receive summons but that when they do, they will take a decision. So the position is getting more handsome by the minute. If that was the bombshell they meant, well it failed to explode; like I always say.

In response to questions about whether he felt that the main opposition APC was being defiant or using the situation to stir unrest, Mr. Swarray said: “Well let’s put it this way. First, we will not allow anybody to threaten or blackmail this government. We have the responsibility to lead this country and the president has declared he will lead this country to greatness. The signs are all over the place. So we will not allow the distractions. Two: Talking about defiance; I do not know about defiance because this is due process; this is a legal process that has met all benchmarks. At the launching the Chief Justice was very emphatic that all due processes are followed through and that the Commission is properly seated. What more do you want?

He added that “the Commissions are here; they are a fact of life. They are like death; nobody is going to escape it! There will be no impediment to the Commission as they officially start on Monday 4th January, 2019.”
