“Let us vote for a change that will take us forward or one that will drag us backwards”. Samuel Ibrahim Koroma remarked while addressing journalists in the newsroom of the state-run broadcaster, the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) in New England.
He said journalism was a noble and honorable profession and that the SLRU election was a chance to elect a leader who represents competence and integrity to lead with utmost comfortability. He said he is that leader that is so badly needed in the union. Choosing him will usher in a cloud of reinvigorated transformation for the better in the union.
While chiming in on the discussion, colleagues of the SLBC raised concerns about disenfranchisement which they say was quite apparent. Francess Bernard and Esther Marie Samura requested that SLAJ extend the duration and timeframe for registration so that more journalists (electorates) can register to vote. They said Freetown was the largest journalistic community housing some of the biggest reporters/ journalists in the country.
Mr. Koroma said that already the overarching media body, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) is burdened with a lot of activities and responsibilities, and that forms enough reason why he’s running for the presidency of the SLRU.
At the moment, the fate of the Sierra Leone Reporters Union hangs on a pendulum oscillating between what will bring about the much-needed resuscitation it needs (progress) and an apparent retrogression that will lead to an agonizing death of same. Any wrong choice will either make or break the union. Mr. Koroma has come with the way forward out of what looks like a seemingly trouble stagnation.
The future is in your hands!!!!! Vote Samuel Ibrahim Koroma for reliability, authenticity, professional rigidity and agility to lead
