The Institute for Legal Research and Advocacy for Justice (ILRAJ) has assured victims of domestic violence that they are not alone and has encouraged them to always speak out.
According to ILRAJ, many women suffer silently from domestic violence while maintaining a facade of bravery. The organisation highlighted the involvement of Hawanatu Konneh, who used her social media platform to draw attention to the domestic abuse of Monica Galiwa.
Additionally, ILRAJ praised Dr. Isata Mahoi’s intervention, which provided Monica and her children with a safe haven.
ILRAJ emphasized that these examples show that victims of domestic abuse are never as helpless or isolated as they might feel. They urged victims not to wait until it’s too late, stressing that their lives are precious and help is available.
The organization’s doors are always open for legal advice and support, and they encourage those affected not to wait until becoming another victim. ILRAJ also called on the public to play a crucial role in combating domestic violence, providing several key steps to support those in danger:
Regularly check on friends and family; your presence can make a significant difference.
Pay close attention to loved ones’ emotional states during your check-ins, as many suffer in silence. Your awareness can help identify signs of abuse.
If something seems off, don’t ignore it. Act on your concerns and inquire further to understand what’s happening. Your proactive approach could prevent further harm.
