The Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai on Tuesday provided updates to Government through its Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh regarding the current status of the rehabilitation work taking place at the National Stadium.

After a significant part of the tour, Dr. Abdulai informed the Chief Minister about NSA’s direct efforts in providing water and electricity as demanded by the contractors rolling out the project.

“NSA has engaged the Chinese contractors on several occasions on the project’s timeline, but the contractors have always mentioned challenges as the reason for the delay,” Dr. Abdulai said.

It was Dr. Abdulai’s idea that plastic seats be installed at the National Stadium to match international standards. He urged the contractors to provide a perimeter fence to protect the pitch at the Practicing Field, where plastic seats have already been installed.

He brained the relook at a few architectural designs to help streamline the overall outlook of the Stadium after its completion.

This 40-million dollar rehabilitation project is the most comprehensive form of face-lift the National Stadium has undergone, but its completion has hit far beyond deadline. It was promised to last for two years.

No deadline date has so far been established, but those familiar with the engagements around the project say that the Chinese are likely to hand over the edifice in early 2026.
