The Government of Sierra Leone has confirmed that the fire outbreak at State House over the weekend did not affect the Office of the President.
In a press release issued hours after the incident, officials confirmed that the National Fire Force and police were alerted at 4:15pm about flames erupting on the 4th Floor of the building’s West Wing.
Authorities said the fire, which started around 4:00pm, spread to the 3rd Floor but was hurriedly contained to sections of the upper levels.
Over 100 firefighters, soldiers, police, and water company teams frantically worked to control the blaze, which sent thick smoke billowing over the capital.
The Office of the President, located on the 2nd Floor, was unharmed as emergency crews focused on protecting critical areas. A statement issued by the government also confirmed same.
Officials however stressed that the cause of the fire remains unknown and urged citizens to avoid speculation.
