In conformity with the constitutional provision of section 83 and the Third Schedule of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone (Act No. 6 of 1991) in tandem with Standing Order 1 (a) of the Standing Orders of Parliament, the Newly Elected Paramount Chief Member of Parliament PC Hon. Alhaji Musa Bamba Forray Kulio Jalloh III of Tonkolili district, has subscribed to the Oath of Office as Hon. Paramount Chief Member of Parliament representing Tonkolili district.
It could be recalled that the former PCMP representing Tonkolili district, PC Alhaji Masakamara Kanamanka lll passed away in November 2024.
Before the Swearing-In of the New PCMP, the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas announced to Members of Parliament that a correspondence from the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone declared PC Hon. Alhaji Musa Bamba Forray Kulio Jalloh III had been duly elected as Member of Parliament. The Rt. Hon. Speaker therefore acted in the aforesaid constitutional provision and Standing Order to direct the Clerk of Parliament to administer the Oath of Office to the New Paramount Chief Member of Parliament. The Director of Legislative Services, Momodu Lamin Deen Rogers, administered the Oath of Office on behalf of the Clerk of Parliament.
“I PC Hon. Alhaji Musa Forray Kulio Jalloh III of Tonkolili district having been elected as Member of Parliament, do hereby in the name of Allah, swear that I will bear allegiance of the Republic of Sierra Leone as by law established, that I will uphold and defend the Constitution of Sierra Leone, and that I will faithfully and conscientiously discharge the duties of a Member of Parliament, so help me Allah”, he sworn.
In his congratulatory courtesy, the Rt. Hon. Speaker Segepoh Solomon Thomas wholeheartedly welcomed the New Paramount Chief Member of Parliament for his reunion to the House as a Former Member of Parliament. Speaker Thomas reiterated that the New PCMP was in the House as an ordinary Member of Parliament, but he now serves with a combined responsibility as Paramount Chief Member of Parliament. Speaker Thomas urged the New PCMP to be diligent in his service to the nation and to the House of Parliament with specificity.
The Rt. Hon. Speaker also informed the PCMP that he had developed what many would call a bad habit of calling out the names of Members of Parliament who attend sittings on time. He said the novelty of calling out names of MPs who attend sittings on time is to let their constituents know that their MPs are indeed representing them well. Speaker Thomas concluded by encouraging the New PCMP to do everything he could to live by the dictates of the oath he had taken.
