He said “this is my first time to be here, so we are both learning about this part of our history at the same time. I hope now that you are here, you will ask the necessary questions that will enrich your knowledge on what this part of our history was like in this country”.
He went on to say “when you return you will comprehend it so that you will get the knowledge which in future you will have the opportunity to pass it on to others so that this history will not die”, adding “this is the essence of these museums”.
As he thanked the Chairperson of the Monument and Relics Commission (MRC), Isatu Smith for facilitating his visit to that site and the coordinator and staff of the railway museum, he also urged the pupils to be very hard working.
“I want to encourage you also, regardless of the difficulties you have faced, to take your education very serious. I am here today because I was serious with my education. The possibilities for you to be prominent in this country depend on your dedication and hard work. Stay in school. Your personal educational achievement is yours. You will not pass it on to others.”
In her statement, the Chairperson of MRC said she was very happy to meet Don Bosco at the site.
“I have been telling the coordinator and the education officer that they should do schools and community outreach programmes. This place is here but they will not know about it if no one goes out to tell them it exists”, she said, stating that she was happy that they were there to learn about their heritage and culture.
“Some of you have difficult start in your life, now that Don Bosco is here to support you I want you to be obedient so that you will have successful future,” she advised.
A brief history of the museum was narrated by the Abu Nylander- Kargbo, Coordinator of the said museum.
