One of the Chief Negotiators in the Tripartite Committee, Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has said the recommendations captured in the Final Tripartite Report are not only wins for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the All People’s Congress (APC) Party but for Sierra Leone as a nation.

Dr. Sengeh said: “His Excellence, we have been through a six month period of trusted function to state responsibility. As a nation, redress of this nature demonstrates the power of dialogue in addressing our differences. We have also accelerated efforts to safeguarding our democracy, and promoting national cohesion on matters of disagreement and political tensions.

“As the Chief Minister, I am presenting this document as an approval of our settled misunderstanding and unified acceptance on the issues raised on the Terms of Reference as final recommendations to this document”.

The final compilation of the Tripartite Report was handed over to President Dr. Julius Maada Bio at State House past Monday. The Report captures 80 recommendations that are designed to improve electoral policies, subsequent electoral systems and the operation of electoral management bodies in Sierra Leone.

This important landmark is also a call to the crucial significance of adopting dialogue as a critical instrument to harnessing national cohesion, peace, and unity.

The Committee disagreed on certain issues, especially the recommendation of the opposition government posing a rerun by ECOWAS, and the resignation of the Electoral Commissioner.

Receiving the Final Report earlier, President Bio expressed full commitment to the implementation of the recommendations to the latter, while thanking the Committee for the fulfillment of democratic responsibilities.

President Bio said: “Today, I received the final report of the Cross-Party Committee on Electoral Systems and Bodies at State House. I am committed to deepening our democratic credentials by instituting just and inclusive electoral management and electoral process reforms. I want to thank members of the committee for their exceptional service to our beloved Sierra Leone. I am deeply grateful to our development partners for their support of the principles, objectives, and work of this committee”.

Many Sierra Leoneans who spoke to AYV are expecting that the Recommendations will help to improve electoral integrity in Sierra Leone, viewing them as potential instrument for fostering national peace and unity.
