The University of Makeni (UniMak) is abuzz with excitement as Teneba Marah, a final-year Public Health student, steps forward to contest for the presidency of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC).
If successful, she will become the first female to hold this prestigious position in the university’s history.
Teneba’s journey in student leadership is marked by her resilience, commitment, and passion for representing the interests of her peers. Currently serving as the SRC Minister of Health, she has earned a reputation for her proactive approach to student welfare and her unwavering dedication to addressing health-related challenges within the university community.
Before her role as Minister of Health, Teneba served as the Deputy Minister of Education, where she played a key role in organizing the first Public Speaking Competition in the university and also advocated strongly for students, and fostering collaboration between students and administration.
Her impressive track record of leadership, coupled with her academic excellence in Public Health, positions her as a dynamic and competent candidate for the SRC presidency.
Out of the University she hold series of Leadership Positions such as Vice President for Koinadugu and Fabala Students Union UniMak, Chairperson National Girls Empowerment Forum Planning Committee etc.
Part of her campaign, Teneba will emphasizes gender inclusivity, innovation, and empowerment. Her manifesto will outline key priorities, including improving access to essential student services, enhancing health and wellness programs, promoting gender equality, and creating opportunities for professional development.
Margaret Misor Mansaray a strong supporter of Miss Marah said: “I believe leadership is about service and creating a platform where every student feels heard and valued”.
Teneba’s candidacy has garnered widespread support from students, faculty, and alumni who recognize her exceptional leadership qualities and her vision for a more inclusive and student-focused SRC.
If elected, Teneba Marah’s presidency will not only mark a significant milestone in the history of the University of Makeni but also serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for young women across Sierra Leone who aspire to lead and make a difference in their communities.
