The United States government through its Embassy in Freetown and its contractor – Triple Canopy, has trained forty soldiers from the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces on the operations and maintenance of heavy-duty equipment.

The training culminated in a graduation ceremony attended by U.S. Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Bryan Hunt.

The training began with intensive classroom sessions on the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty machinery, followed by hands-on field operations.

This initiative aimed to enhance RSLAF’s engineering capabilities and asset management.

Ambassador Hunt highlighted the importance of the training, stating: “Our countries share a common goal of fostering peace, security and prosperity in the region. Through joint training exercises, knowledge sharing and capacity-building initiatives like this one, we continue to deepen our defense partnership and enhance our collective security.”

He praised RSLAF’s dedication to gender equality by including female soldiers in the training and reaffirmed the U.S. Government’s commitment to supporting RSLAF in strengthening its institutional capacity.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone in U.S.-Sierra Leone relations, showcasing the ongoing efforts to build a robust and capable military force through collaboration and shared expertise.
