The Unity Party of Sierra Leone will tomorrow hold its National Party Convention at the Culture Radio’s Negus Negas Complex Regent Highway, Grafton in Freetown, as requested by the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC).
The Unity Party is a political party founded on 25th October 2017 in Sierra Leone by Femi Claudius Cole. It is the first political party founded by a woman in the history of the country.
“Since the birth of Unity Party, our intention has been to develop a set of guiding principles based on the needs of all Sierra Leoneans on how to collectively change the course of our future. I am pleased to invite you to share our perspective on how we can come together to move our country from an aid dependent nation to a self-sustainability”. Femi said.
She explained that the Party is focused on six priority areas: Good Governance, Human Capital Development, Economic Development, Land and Natural Resources, Foreign Policy and National Security, adding that for each sector, “we have clear policy directions and accompanying strategies to indicate how our vision will be implemented”.
Femi Claudius Cole said the decay in Sierra Leone’s political and economic structures can be traced to poor governance and dysfunctional public administration, assuring that the Unity Party promises respect for the rule of law and promotion of transparent anti-corruption measures.
“We will implement efficient public financial management strategies. In order to fulfill our social commitment to Sierra Leoneans, the building blocks for our human development plan will be implemented through comprehensive health, education and social welfare policies. Unity Party will therefore promote a healthy lifestyle, availability of balanced nutrition and preventive and curative healthcare. We pledge to ensure the availability of quality education at all levels and strive to create a pool of skilled Sierra Leoneans that will form the foundation of our economic development agenda”.
She said the Unity Party manifesto plainly spells out the party’s plan for Sierra Leone’s land and natural resources including computerisation of the respective land registries, providing affordable shelter for all Sierra Leoneans, promotion of agriculture, development of oil and gas, solid minerals, provision of water and sanitation facilities as well as protecting the environment from the threat of gully erosion, desertification, global warming and rising sea levels.
