The United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Ambassador David Reimer has urged the main opposition, All People’s Congress (APC) not to boycott government.

Ambassador David Reimer tweeted last evening saying: “I urge the APC not to boycott government. A vibrant democracy needs a strong opposition; those who voted for the opposition need to have their voices heard”.

The All People’s Congress Party in a June 30th, 2023 Press Release declared its non-participation in any level of governance, including the legislature and local councils.

The Party further insisted on a rerun of the elections within six months to be overseen by individuals and institutions who will ensure a fair and transparent process.

Ambassador David Reimer was appointed as United States Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Sierra Leone on January 19, 2021.

He was most recently the Ambassador to Mauritius and the Seychelles.  Before that, he was the Director of the State Department’s Office of West African Affairs.  Ambassador Reimer’s other overseas postings include Mauritania; Iraq; Switzerland; Haiti; Italy; Germany; and Belize.

In Washington, Ambassador Reimer has worked in the Africa Bureau, Human Resources Bureau, and Economic Bureau. Prior to joining the State Department as a Foreign Service Officer, he worked as an International Affairs Specialist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Ambassador Reimer grew up in Ohio.

He has a Master’s Degree in Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor’s Degree, with a major in history and minor in economics, from Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana.  He is married to Simonetta Romagnolo from Milan, Italy.
