Sierra Leone happened to be the first country in West Africa to host Limkokwing University, after establishing three other campuses in the following African countries; Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland.
Decaling the university opened, President Koroma ascertained that the event served as a defining moment in transforming Sierra Leone. He stated that education in the country must not be business as usual, as he stated that his government seeks to tap into new approaches for the transformation of socioeconomic development, with the hope that the university will produce more job creators than job seekers.
President Koroma encouraged students to trust and believe in Limkokwing University as it will change them and continue to empower more young people, as he expressed his thoughtful gratitude to the Founder and President of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Dr Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr Limkokwing for his sound vision for Africa.
Vice Chancellor for Limkokwing University Sierra Leone, Professor Cedric Bell said the ecosystem of the university enables students to learn through regular interaction with contemporary industries, building digital skills, become proficient in spoken and written English, and develop creative thinking skills to become innovative in their approach among others.
Minister of Education Science and Technology, Dr. Minkailu Bah said the establishment of the university in the country posed immeasurable potential for the development of the nation. He said the complexity of the facilities in the campus depicts its radical move from traditional to a modernize method of learning.
Founder and President of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Dr. Tan Sri Dato Paduka Limkokwing, described the event as the beginning of a new future, as the students forms part of a globalize network of universities across the world. Dr. Limkokwing further stated that the future of Sierra Leone lies in the hands of young people, as he mentioned that his university is the most technologically advance university in Africa, as its provided for it students essential access to electronics and digital libraries to conduct academic research.
Commissioning of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Sierra Leone branch assembled key stakeholders in the educational sector including vice chancellors, academic and administrative staff of traditional universities and the Tertiary Education Commission.
The university headquarter stationed in Malaysia, and as part of the package for Sierra Leone, the top ten of every batch of graduates would earned themselves scholarship for further studies in Malaysia.
