Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to local production and economic growth with a visit to Sunbird Bioenergy SL Limited as part of his trip to Kono.

The visit aligns with the ‘Feed Salone’ initiative, a national drive to enhance food security and reduce reliance on imports.
A key highlight of the discussions was Sunbird’s plan to establish a sugar factory, a move expected to strengthen domestic agriculture and industrial development.
The company, which currently employs 1,400 permanent staff and 5,000 seasonal workers, aims to expand further, creating more job opportunities for Sierra Leoneans and contributing to poverty alleviation in the region.
Dr. Jalloh also underscored the importance of leveraging Sunbird’s energy production capabilities to support the national grid. Talks centered on how the company could increase its power contribution, complementing government efforts to improve electricity access across the country.
Commending Sunbird’s dedication to industrial and agricultural advancements, the Vice President emphasized the crucial role of public-private partnerships in national development.
He noted that collaborations like these are key to realizing the goals of ‘Feed Salone’—transforming Sierra Leone into a self-sufficient economy driven by sustainable production and inclusive growth.
