According to Voters Training and Education Officer Mr. Tamba Taylor who heads the NEC Kenema District as its coordinator, they have about 5,000 voter identification cards that have not been collected by its owners.

He added that after completion of the registration process, NEC allowed two weeks for people who did not go to the registration centers to collect their voter ID cards, to go to the respective NEC district headquarters to collect them at a later date.

It appears however that despite the urges of NEC for voters to collect their voter ID cards during the aforementioned dates and the extended period; voters are only now rushing to the respective centers to collect their ID cards.

According to several party supporters interviewed by this press, they were spurred into action following the recent successful presidential debate, adding that they had been despondent and unwilling to collect their ID cards but that after listening to the various presidential candidates, they had a change of mind which made them rush to the NEC branches in Freetown and in the provinces to collect their voter ID cards which makes them eligible to cast their ballot on March 7, 2018.

Meanwhile in Kenema District according to NEC Coordinator, Mr. Bockarie M. Vandi, they have in their custody more than 5,000 uncollected voter ID cards. According to him, the majority of these cards belong to youth. He went on to say NEC is waiting for people to collect their voter ID cards, adding that these people spend time on rallies forgetting that their vote is more important than rallies.
