“We aware of the challenges in the water sector but that we are working assiduously towards improving water supply in the Freetown  capital city, together with all communities across the country,’ Mr. Kabba stated.

In his contribution, the Executive Director, WashNet, Musa Ansumana Soko maintained that the world water day was a global day of action, and that it was a moment of reflection, and at the same time created the awareness among the relevant authorities in the water sector including donors towards addressing water shortage among citizens, in terms of accessing safe and affordable drinking water in the country..

Musa Ansumana furthered that his institution was aware of the fact that children are confronting with water related challenges on a daily basis, a situation he said seriously affected their academic output.

He however reiterated that more investment was needed in the area of water supply, and that if much was provided for, issues bothering on water shortage among various communities would have been averted, and the intake of unpurified and contaminated water had caused many people to seek medication at various hospitals for water related illnesses.

He also reaffirmed that sixty percent of sierra Leoneans had accessed to safe drinking water, while forty percent still found it very difficult to access safe drinking water, noting that it was about time, people learn to managed water, especially when forty percent are striving to access safe drinking water, and at the same time formed long queue to access water.

The Director General, Sierra Leone Water Company , Samuel Bangura, disclosed that  world water day was a day of reflection and worth celebrating, adding  his institution had   rebuilt a lot of broken water facilities in various  communities and were still working to ensure they conduct  assessment and rehabilitation in other water facilities in every part of the country.

 He maintained that SALWACO had provided safe and affordable water for more than seventy percent of the population of Sierra Leone, and most of the areas in which his company had operated continued to access and enjoy pipe born water.

“we know we are not yet there, but what we have done is satisfactory to the Sierra Leonean public, but that  does not make us complacence, while we my company  continue to work hard and  come next year, we will have better things to show.” Mr. Bangura asserted.
