YARDEPB is an independent Registered Community- based, non- Political and impartial human rights advocacy organization seeking towards developing and empowering young people as well as other rural communities and also build better rural future.
With Child marriage and child pregnancy emerging as the major problems in the Western Rural district of the country, such violations on the rights of women, girls, and other vulnerable groups have most times had long lasting consequences on these deprived groups in the country.
The Youth Arise for Rural Development, Empowerment and Peace Building (YARDEPB) through support from theOpen Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) has held a day consultative meeting with Chives, religious heads, Police and other key stakeholders at Newton in the Koya Chiefdom Western Rural district to chart the way forward on how offences relating to the three gender base violence act could be protected.
Giving an overview on the project, the Executive Director, Youth Arise for Rural Development, Empowerment and Peace Building (YARDEPB), Adams Kamara said they would work on three approaches that thread in consonance to Development, Empowerment and Peace building, and these areas he stressed has their key thematic areas that focuses on addressing emerging issues that concerns violations on Human rights.
He further stated that YARDEPB is an independent Registered Community- based non-political and impartial human rights advocacy organization that seeks to develop and empower young people as well as other member of the rural communities and also build peace for a better rural future.
Making an input into the process, the Sierra Leone Country Officer for the Open Society Initiative for West Africa, Joe Hindovei Pemagbi expresses enthusiasm on the interest displayed by elders of Newton in the Koya Rural on promoting human rights, while stating that as an organization their key focus is to support other groups on right promotion and protection at grassroots level, and therefore partnering with YARDEPB was never a mistake.
Several representatives also made relevant input into the process, with Khadija Turay residing at Newton calling on YARDEPB to make their operation felt in the district, while stating that these problems cannot be championed by YARDEPB alone but with collective work something positive is sure to happen.
With the advocacy now slated to span through a period of fifteen months, it is however anticipated that their dreams of clamping hard on human rights violators would be achieve.
