The World Bank Specialist also said, to address the challenges of handling the large number of assets declaration forms, declaration should be limited to politically exposed persons. She said there should also be administrative sanctions for those who fail to declare their assets within the specified period.
The Head of the Assets Declaration Unit at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Zainab Othman explained to the World Bank Team the assets declaration process. She also spoke about the online assets declaration exercise which was introduced by the Commission this year.
Miss Othman also praised the assets declaration by top government officials and civil servants, which she described as very impressive.
The World Bank Team was taken on a conducted tour of the storage facilities of the assets declaration forms by Brima Thullah, Archivist at the ACC.
The Anti-Corruption Act 2008 makes provision for all public officers to declare their assets, income and liabilities with the ACC every year while assuming and leaving office.
