International IDEA, with funding from the European Union, hosted a crucial Partnership Coordination Meeting on the Sierra Leone Democracy Strengthening Project. The meeting brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including government officials, development partners, and key civil society organizations, to review progress and address the challenges faced in strengthening the country’s democratic framework.

During his address, Sierra Leone’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay Esq., provided important updates on the implementation of reforms that were recommended by the Tripartite Committee. He emphasized that these efforts to strengthen the rule of law are inherently connected to broader objectives of democracy building in Sierra Leone.
The Attorney General stressed that the rule of law is a pillar of Sierra Leone’s democratic processes, ensuring that justice is served fairly, with accountability and equal access for all citizens. He also recognized the valuable contributions of international partners in helping to advance these critical reforms, which are pivotal for the country’s long-term democratic development.
The meeting highlighted the need for continuous collaboration across all sectors to ensure that Sierra Leone’s democracy remains resilient and responsive to the needs of its citizens. As the country moves forward in strengthening its legal and institutional frameworks, the Attorney General reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering a more transparent, just, and inclusive society for all Sierra Leoneans.
