Chairman of the Special Initiative for Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security in Sierra Leone, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella has spearheaded Global Efforts for Clean Cooking Solutions at the International Energy Agency (IEA) Clean Cooking Summit in Paris, France.

His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio delivered a keynote address at the Summit. Standing before world leaders and stakeholders, President Bio outlined his government’s strategic initiatives to prioritize clean cooking solutions, marking a significant step forward in Sierra Leone’s energy transition plan.

Driving this initiative forward is Dr. Yumkella’s relentless advocacy for sustainable development culminated in a one-day dialogue in March, on clean cooking, bringing together key stakeholders including women in leadership roles, government officials, and development partners. This collaborative effort sought to map out sustainable clean cooking solutions tailored to Sierra Leone’s unique needs.

The fruits of these endeavors were evident at the summit in Paris, where a staggering $2.2 billion USD was raised to revolutionize access to clean cooking in Africa. This historic milestone not only underscores the urgency of addressing energy poverty but also highlights Sierra Leone’s pivotal role in shaping the global clean energy agenda.

Proudly leading the charge, President Bio and Dr. Yumkella are charting a course toward a future where Africa has access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable clean cooking solutions. Their unwavering commitment to this cause not only benefits the people of Sierra Leone but resonates across the continent and beyond, setting a precedent for inclusive and impactful action on clean energy worldwide.
