Mayor of Freetown, Her Worship Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr said the move is part of efforts to ensure environmental restoration on the Lumley Beach and also in honored of the late Sia Fatmata Kamara, who was instrumental in championing FCC’s tree planting initiative.

Mayor Aki-Sawyerr said: “The tree giveaway initiative is a significant step towards enhancing Freetown’s green spaces. The designated locations for the 25,000 tree distribution include Bottom Mango, Aberdeen Road Roundabout, Dwarzack Junction, Lumley Mack Pharmacy, Calaba Town, St. John, Wallace Johnson Street Bus Halt, Upgun Roundabout, Shell and Congo Cross”.

She said when planted, this will add to the hundreds of thousands of trees that have so far been planted across the city to improve environmental and climate resilience, adding; “The tree giveaway initiative is an opportunity to contribute to Freetown’s green spaces and the beautification of our surroundings and that trees will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and you are encouraged to visit early”.
