The All Political Parties Women’s Association (APPWA) leadership met with the Chairman of the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) at the Commission’s headquarters on OAU Drive, Tower Hill in Freetown.

President of APPWA, Augusta James-Tiema, emphasised the association’s commitment to women’s solidarity, transcending political affiliations by setting aside party colours. She noted that women in Sierra Leone have long faced numerous challenges, including traditional and cultural barriers, economic hardships, illiteracy, and male chauvinism.

These obstacles she says have often silenced women’s voices in national development.

She highlighted that one of APPWA’s primary objectives is raising awareness about inclusivity in politics and promoting democratic values and good governance in Sierra Leone.

In his response, the Chairman Mr. Emmanuel Koivaya Amara Esq. expressed gratitude to APPWA for their visit, noting that he is a ‘He for She’. He expressed his passion for women’s empowerment and praised APPWA as one of the most complete and active structures he had been briefed about. He highlighted the importance of the GEWE Act and Part 9 of the Political Parties Act, which APPWA and other women’s groups had significantly contributed to. He reassured members of the association that these legal frameworks now offer greater opportunities for women.

He expressed optimism about fruitful collaboration with the association, applauding their dedication and unity.
