The following is an attempt to correct the false statement made by a number of people on radio TV and the press about ownership of this property etc.
I must make it very clear that NO life was lost during the demolition of the Clinic. It was very clear that the story of a pregnant woman who lost her life was made up to attract sympathy and in the process give the impression that I am heartless and wicked. This is not true. I am a law abiding citizen who believes in the rule of law. This matter was in court for twenty two years. (1992-2014) At no time did I attempt to take the law into my own hands. I have been very patient.
The properties in question no doubt belong to the Carlton-Carew family and has been in their possession since 1926. It was originally ‘Carlton-Carew farm’.
My name is Conrad Carlton – Carew and on the 11th May 1983, I was appointed by my aunt Mrs. Onipede Cline- Thomas, nee Carlton Carew (deceased) as lawful Attorney to manage generally her properties in Sierra Leone.
In 1992, I instructed my solicitors, Basma &Macaulay to issue a writ of summons for the recovery of land against one Joseph Mohamed Koroma at Thompson bay off Carlton-Carew Road.
In 2006, my Aunt Mrs. Cline Thomas (nee Carlton Carew) died in the UK and I was appointed attorney for the trustee Stephens Simmons of the UK. Probate was taken in London and the Resealing of Grant of Probate at the High Court of Sierra Leone in 2009 and Basma &Macaulay were also my Solicitors. All the beneficiaries are Sierra Leoneans born in this country.
In 2012 Stephen Simmon was added as 2nd Plaintiff in the matter of Joseph M. Koroma versus Onipede Cline -Thomas.
In 2014, judgement was given in our favour by Hon. Justice Browne-Marke All the relevant documents are in folders 3 and 4.
On the 22nd of January 2016, bailiffs from the office of the Under sheriff together with the police officers and licensed surveyor ,proceeded to execute the writ of possession. Mr. RAD Jones prevented the officers from completing the execution.
In Feb. 2016 Remie Boston-Taylor through her solicitor R.A.D Jones applied by motion that the court grant an interim stay of execution of judgment dated 13th June 2014 by Justice Browne- Marke pending the hearing and determination of their application etc.
31st May 2016 The Hon. Mr.. Justice A. Sesay ruled in our favor. See folder 5.
On the 26th January 2017, bailiffs from the office of the under sheriff together with the police officers licensed surveyor and myself proceeded to execute the writ of possession. Demolition commenced but the police were asked to withdraw by ? Work incomplete.
