The Security Sector said it has successfully thwarted a dangerous plot orchestrated by certain individuals, including senior military officers, aimed at disturbing the peace and harmony of the nation and causing harm to innocent citizens.
In a press release issued yesterday by the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), it was revealed that numerous arrests have been made in connection with the conspiracy, and the suspects are currently assisting authorities with their ongoing investigations.
Initial findings indicate that the group planned to exploit purported peaceful protests scheduled from 7th to 10th August, 2023 to execute violent attacks against state institutions and peaceful civilians.
The release stated that despite continued efforts to strengthen peace and democracy in the country, there are still elements both domestically and abroad attempting to undermine stability.
Reassuring the public, the security sector affirms that the situation is fully under control, and the nation remains peaceful. Citizens are urged to remain calm and continue with their daily routines, while also staying vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
