Sierra Leone Ambassador hosts Netherlands Ambassador to Russia

Her Excellency Ambassador Joanneke Balfoort, the Netherlands Ambassador to the Russia Federation paid a courtesy call on her counterpart, His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Yongawo, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Russia Federation, at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Moscow.

Ambassador Yongawo, with his embassy staff, warmly welcomed Ambassador Balfoort upon her arrival. Following exchanges of pleasantries, Ambassador Yongawo highlighted the deep-rooted relations between Sierra Leone and the Netherlands, built on mutual respect and shared values.

He noted that while the two nations may be geographically distant, they are united in their commitment to sustainable development, economic growth, and social progress. He praised the Netherlands for its strong economy and forward-thinking policies while emphasizing Sierra Leone’s rich cultural heritage and growing economic potential as key areas for deeper engagement.

The courtesy call provided an opportunity for both diplomats to discuss avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation. 

Ambassador Yongawo expressed keen interest in attracting Dutch investment to Sierra Leone, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, and infrastructure development. He underscored Sierra Leone’s efforts to create a favorable investment climate, including the establishment of a one-stop-shop system to streamline foreign investment. 

He encouraged Dutch businesses to explore the country’s emerging opportunities, highlighting the Netherlands’ expertise as a valuable asset in driving sustainable economic development.

Beyond economic ties, Ambassador Yongawo also emphasized the significance of educational and cultural exchanges in fostering long-term collaboration. He proposed increased partnerships between tertiary institutions in both countries, including scholarship programs and student exchange initiatives that would allow young people to benefit from each other’s educational systems.

Cultural diplomacy was another key point of discussion, with both envoys recognizing the importance of celebrating and preserving the rich traditions of their respective nations. Plans were floated to organize cultural events and initiatives that would strengthen people-to-people connections and promote a greater appreciation of each country’s heritage.
