The Chairman of the Board of Authority of NCRA (National Civil Registration Authority), Sorie Fofana, has embarked on a weeklong nationwide tour of the Authorityโs district offices. He visited the NCRA district offices in Bo, Kenema and Kailahun. He is due to travel to Bombali and Kono.
Addressing staff members in Bo, Kenema and Kailahun yesterday, Chairman Fofana noted that, the need for civil registration and ID services across the country was growing exponentially.
He said that, in order to access services, customers are required to produce valid National or Non-National ID cards.
Chairman Fofana informed that, the Authority was in the process of establishing outlets in remote or hard-to-reach areas of the country in order to lessen the burden on applicants traveling to district offices to acquire ID services. He said that, mobile teams have been set up to visit some rural communities across the country.
He disclosed that a new outlet has been established at Mile 91 in the Tonkolili district. Work is progressing on the establishment of another outlet at Lungi in the Port Loko district.
Chairman Fofana added that, the Authority had engaged the Council of Paramount Chiefs to help devise ways and means how services provided by NRCA could be decentralised at chiefdom levels. He noted that, the Paramount Chiefs have been cooperating very well with the Management of NCRA to develop a strategy for a rollout.
Chairman Fofana thanked staff members on behalf of the Board for their support and hard work.
The Regional Registration Officers in the South and Eastern Regions and the District Registration Officer in Kailahun gave a comprehensive operational update to the Chairman and highlighted some of their problems and challenges.
Chairman Fofana assured them that, the Board in collaboration with the Management will fight very hard to address some of the challenges highlighted during the briefing session.
