2 ladies arrested for same-sex marriage in Waterloo

The Sierra Leone Police have reportedly arrested two women on Friday, September 12, 2025, in Waterloo for allegedly engaging in a Same-Sex Marriage ceremony.

Reports have it that the incident occurred around 4:00 PM in the New London, Mango Farm community in Waterloo, where residents were reportedly shocked to witness the ceremony.

The ladies were identified as Massah Mansaray and Janet, with Janet reportedly assuming the role traditionally associated with a man.

Word of the event quickly spread, drawing large crowds and sparking intense discussions among community members. Concerned residents alerted authorities, and the pair were escorted to the Corner Kick Police Post for questioning and further investigation.

The incident has generated mixed reactions within the community, with many describing it as unprecedented. Authorities are currently handling the matter in accordance with local laws.
