Delivering keynote address, Chairman, West African College of Nursing, Mrs. Patricia Matu Bah emphasized that the safety of patients is one of the difficult issues faces the health sector today and advanced that health quality is a national and international concern.

She called on graduates to focus on patient safety, competency, compassion and act with kindness. She therefore appealed to the new graduates to give quality care to patients’ value research, knowledge and skills.

She ended by emphasizing that the right of patients should be ensure and respected and encouraged graduates to adapt the culture of quality plans as professionals.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the occasion, who doubles as Director for the Reproductive and Child Health care in the Ministry of Health of and Sanitation (MOHS), Dr. Santigie Sesay admonished graduates to work very hard and emphasized on their readiness to save lives of new born babies and mothers.

He maintained that the 47 graduates from the midwifery school will contribute immensely in maternal and child health and admonished nurses to develop good attitudes towards patients.

In her own side, the Principal, School of Midwifery, Dr. Sheppard said the school nationally and internationally recognized and mentioned that, the school with support from UNFPA has trained 350 midwives that have now been posted to the provinces.

The Principal encouraged graduates to always work on time and demonstrate professionalism in executing duties to ensure high quality service delivery, honesty, accountability and respect for patients .

She stated that midwives are the backbone of a strong resilience health system and discussed that they have achieved over 90% of the school activities this year.

She called on development partners and well-wishers to secure funding for the full implementation of the propose school project at Sussex.
