Madam Kalokoh recalled that prior to the date she was taken to Magburaka Government hospital her health situation was good with a normal temperature as was indicated by the readings of the health officials at their high risk quarantined home. She said that when she got the news that she would be taken to 34 military hospital for allegedly exibiting signs of Ebola, she said, “I was scared and worried.”
It could be recalled that Memuna has for the past five years been selling local soap, which is made using caustic soda and which she used the proceeds from sales to upkeep her family. While preparing this soap according to her elder sister who is a nurse, the smell from the caustic soda is discomforting leading to her breathing slowly which made her most times ‘feel abnormal.’
Explaining her experience to Awoko Newspaper Memuna recalled that she is an active business woman who takes care of her family and other relatives. The death of Marie Jalloh, coincided with her return from Guinea with goods for sales. She went on that, “We were unable to mourn her death, because Government and World Health Organisation (WHO) came and quarantined our entire family for a “fake Ebola swab result,” she alleged.
She said, “I have been making local soap with caustic soda in a large quantity which most times make me feel sick for two days or more because of the acidic content and odours of the soda so normally when such happens my elder sister, a nurse will treat me and sometimes will administer drip on me if the situation gets worse.”
“So before being taken to 34 hospital during one of the nights while in quarantine with my mother, younger brother, the deceased’s mother and younger daughter, I was feeling abnormal so I told my elder sister who is a nurse. She told my younger brother a councillor who was also quarantined so they together called Dr. Minkailu Bah and one Augustine, a medical doctor at the hospital for medical attention.
On arrival the Magburaka medical team gave me about 3 tins peak milk and my temperature was checked and recorded to be normal so after drinking the milk I felt better and was able to sleep for a while only to be awaken in the morning with an ambulance in front of our house demanding for me to be taken to the Magburaka Government hospital,” she stated.
At the Magburaka hospital she went on, “I was normal for the rest of the day and in the afternoon a white female nurse accompanied by other people came to me and informed me that I am an Ebola positive person and that I must not be scared as they are taking me to 34 hospital because Matheneh centre was closed. I agreed with them so we went and we arrived at mid night. The hospital was lonely but the nurses were helpful to me,” she maintained.
Madam Memuna recalled that when the plasma was dispensed to her, her entire body was scratching and itching preventing her from sleeping but the situation stopped after the nurses started administering lots of drugs through her veins.
