2 ACC Indictees Refused Bail

The particulars of the offences stated that the indictees, Mohamed P. Konneh being a teacher at the Ansarul Islamic Secondary School in Kenema in the eastern part of Sierra Leone and Sahr Mani being a teacher at the Government Technical Secondary School in the Freetown judicial district in the Republic of Sierra Leone, conspired with other persons unknown to improperly confer an advantage on Amie Fayai, a candidate of the West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The indictments further indicated that Mohamed P Konneh being a general mathematics examiner of the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination, between the dates of 12 April 2017 and 15 June 2017 in the western area of Freetown, abused his office of general mathematics examiner to improperly conferred an advantage on Amie Fayia at the west Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination candidate with index number; 0010612066 by improperly allowing her to re-sit the general mathematics paper-2.

In the midst of all this alleged examination malpractice, the Anti Corruption Commission received a tip-off and stormed the residence of the Mohamed P Konneh at Kamara Street, Allen Town in the outskirt of Freetown and subsequently led a team of anti corruption investigators who carried out a sting operation, on 8 June 2017 at Kamara Street at Allen Town.

Upon arrival, a team of anti corruption officers entered the residence of 1st indictee, Mohamed P Konneh and found West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination booklets displayed in his parlour and veranda, including a West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination 2017, history booklet and other people among whom was Amie Fayia.

Amie Fayia was later apprehended together with the rest of the people and also made statement to the anti corruption investigators in which, she incriminated 1st indictee, Mohamed P Konneh.

Statements were obtained from Mohamed P Konneh and Ishmael Sheriff in respect of the corruption allegation levied on them.

Lawyer C Campbell and A Fomba defended Mohamed P Konneh and second indictee, Sahr Mani, whiles the anti corruption commission was represented by Lawyer F Amara.

Justice Ernest Gooding ordered that all indictee be relocated at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba road in the west end of Freetown, and adjourned the matter to today Thursday 18th January 2018.
