Mohamed P Konneh, a teacher at the Ansaru Islamic Secondary School in Kenema and Sahr Mani who is also a teacher at the Government Technical Secondary School are facing multiple charges ranging from conspiracy, abuse of office, accepting an advantage and soliciting advantage, contrary to Section (35) Sub Section (1) of the Anti Corruption Act N0.12 of 2008.
According to the indictments, the two accused persons conspired with unknown individuals to improperly confer an advantage on Amie Fayia with index number 0010612066 during the 2017 West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examinations between 12 April 2017 and 15 June 2017.
The indictment further indicated that the two accused persons also conferred an advantage on this same Amie Fayia by improperly allowing her to re-sit the General Mathematics Paper-2.
Both accused persons were caught pants down by the by officers of the Anti Corruption Commission as they swooped on them whiles they were busy distributing the Mathematics General Paper-2, where they were arrested, together with other people, and whisked to the Commission’s Headquarters on Gloucester Street in the central part of Freetown for further questioning.
During the previous court proceedings before Justice Ernest Gooding, both accused persons pleaded guilty to the offences charged and canvassed the presiding judge to tamper justice with mercy.
Before adjourning the matter, Justice Ernest Gooding noted that such unpatriotic act by the accused persons has over the years undermined and continued to render Sierra Leone’s education sector porous, questionable and degrading to people whose character is unbecoming of decent and committed teachers.
